Serum interleukin 6 as a predicator of the therapeutic effect and adverse reactions after transcatheter arterial embolization.

چکیده
To evaluate the value of serum interleukin 6 (sIL-6) for the prediction of therapeutic effect and adverse reaction after transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE), sIL-6 was measured before and after angiography or TAE in 18 patients (three after angiography and 15 after TAE for hepatocellular carcinoma). The three patients with only angiography showed no elevation of sIL-6, while a significant increase was observed after TAE in the 15 hepatocellular carcinoma patients. The sIL-6 levels of patients with a partial response to TAE were higher at 48-72 hours after the procedure than those of patients with no response (P = 0.045), and the sIL-6 levels of patients who showed adverse reactions were higher at 6-24 h than those of patients without adverse reactions (P = 0.019). sIL-6 level at 48-72 h after TAE reflects the efficacy of TAE, whereas the level at 6-24 h after TAE is related to the severity of adverse reactions. Therefore, sIL-6 may be a useful indicator for prediction of the therapeutic effect of TAE as well as adverse reactions.

The Factors Related to Recurrence after Transcatheter Arterial Embolization for the Treatment of Hemoptysis
OBJECTIVES Massive hemoptysis is a major clinical problem associated with high morbidity and mortality. Transcatheter arterial embolization is widely used for the treatment of massive hemoptysis, but it was reported that the recurrence rate after embolization is 12-54% in the previous studies. We evaluated the therapeutic effect of transcatheter arterial embolization for the treatment of massiv...
متن کاملTranscatheter arterial embolization for upper gastrointestinal tract bleeding
Introduction Transcatheter arterial embolization is a possible treatment for patients with recurrent bleeding from the upper gastrointestinal tract after failed endoscopic management and is also an alternative to surgical treatment. Aim To analyze the outcomes of transcatheter arterial embolization and identify the clinical and technical factors that influenced the rates of morbidity and mort...

OBJECTIVE To compare the effects of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) with transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) on liver function, hepatic damage, and hepatic fibrogenesis in a rabbit tumor model. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-nine New Zealand white rabbits implanted with VX2 tumors in the left liver lobes were randomly divided into three groups: TAE, TACE, and control group...
متن کاملPrimary Treatment of Aneurysmal Bone Cyst of the Pelvis by Transcatheter Arterial Embolization
Background: Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) could be treated by curettage, curettage and filler or even by resection. When located in the pelvis, surgery is always associated with excessive bleeding. Selective arterial embolization can be performed in pelvic ABCs as a preoperative procedure to minimize blood loss or could be used as a primary treatment option. Purpose: The purpose of this study is...
متن کاملPrognostic factors in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma treated by transcatheter arterial embolization.
BACKGROUND Transcatheter arterial embolization induces marked antitumor response in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, but the survival benefit of transcatheter arterial embolization remains to be determined. This study investigated prognostic factors in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma treated by transcatheter arterial embolization. METHODS A total of 128 consecutive pati...
